Lubbuck Area
Lubbock County Roads
Great place for raptors, cranes, pheasants. Some of the best birds to see in the panhandle of Texas can be found out here. Mostly east of the city.
Hodges Park
This park offers beautiful scenery with diverse wildlife, including ducks, owls, and prairie dogs and is a great place for walking, jogging or fishing.
Buddy Holly Lake
Right next to Hodges Park is this little park. It has more water and more waterfowl.
Buffalo Springs Lake and Ransom Canyon
A good place to see some waterfowl like geese and Common Mergansers and other ducks and waterfowl during the winter months.
Amarillo Area
Palo Duro Canyon State Park
Lots of birds in this area including Northern Shrike, Mountain Bluebirds, etc. On occastion, a rare bird will show up.
Buffalo Lake National Wildlife Refuge
A nice place to go birding and view some of the North Texas wildlife.
John Stiff Memorial Park
McDonald Lake is here and holds quite a few migratory waterfowl, especially geese. Look closely in the crowds of geese and you may find some rarities.
Top of Texas
Lake Palo Duro
Great place for some great species. Even some rarities show up here some years like a Pine Grosbeak. There is also a good chance at species like the American Tree Sparrow or Red Crossbills.
